About Barry Gibb
While the name Barry Gibb may not be a household name these days, the music he created with his brothers Robin and Maurice in their band the Bee Gees most definitely is. Born in Douglas on the Isle of Man in 1947, Gibb grew up with his family in Manchester, England. In his long career, Gibb has perfected his craft as singer, songwriter & producer.
Throughout his illustrious career, Gibb's work has always broken the boundaries. In 1978 he not only had 5 of his songs in the U.S. top 10 at the same time, an amazing feat, but also managed to topple the previous Lennon/McCartney 1964 record with a staggering 4 straight number one hits in the U.S.A.
Gibb's has written and produced work that sold millions of copies for many other artists, the most notable of whom include: his younger brother, Andy Gibb; Barbra Streisand; Dolly Parton; Kenny Rogers; Diana Ross and Dionne Warwick. His best known works include: Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart and Spicks and Specks. He also penned the title track for the immortal Grease movie. It is estimated that his work has been recorded by over 2,500 performers.
Still now Gibb continues to be recognised for his work. In 2004, he received an Honorary Doctorate of Music from The University of Manchester and then the next year was awarded a CBE (Commander of The British Empire) which was presented to him by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.
