About Layne Beachley
Born on the 24th of May 1972, Layne Beachley is regarded as the best female surfer in history with almost 30 wins on the World Championship tour to her name. Raised in Manly, New South Wales, Beachley has been a keen competitive sports buff since her early teens, taking up surfing at age 15. When she was only 16, Layne skipped the amateur contest structure to begin competing in the pro tour and by the age of 20 she was ranked sixth in the world.
The down to earth Sydney-sider nailed the first of six consecutive World Surfing Titles and rewrote history with the greatest number of consecutive World Championship victories, male or female.
While the sun and the sand is a significant part of Layne's everyday life, she is also a renowned business woman, and in 2003 she created the 'Aim For The Stars Foundation' to support the academic, sporting, community and cultural dreams of young women. To further ensure the future of women in surfing, Layne is the sole female board member of the pro-surfing governing body, the ASP, and in 2006 she brought the richest women's surfing event, the 'Havaiana's Beachley Classic', to Sydney.
Layne Beachley lives by the belief that there are no limits to achieving goals and great success- something she has proven time and again.
