About Paul Newman
Born in January 1925 Paul Newman is without a doubt one of the world's most seasoned actors. Growing up in Cleveland USA, Paul Newman showed an interest in acting from early high school where he participated in all his school productions. After graduating from high school in 1943, Newman immediately enlisted in the Navy where he stayed for the next three years before enrolling at Kenyon College to finally pursue his dream of becoming an actor.
Paul Newman first appeared on our screens in 1951 when he starred in the television production of The Aldrich Family. This was quickly followed by his first Broadway appearance where his talent was spotted by Warner Bros. executives who immediately signed him up.
His first notable film was Somebody Up There Likes Me in which Newman played boxer Rocky Graziano. It was this film that led to Newman becoming known as 'the new Brando'. Paul Newman quickly became an in-demand actor and starred in a line up of outstanding films including: The Long Hot Summer, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, The Hustler, Cool Hand Luke and the legendary Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
After being nominated for an Oscar seven times, Paul Newman won the prestigious acting award for his role as 'Fast' Eddie Felson in The Colour of Money. Newman has also taken home various other awards including an Academy Award, Golden Globe, Cannes Award and an Emmy.
During the 1980s Paul Newman stepped away from the silver screen and launched Newman's Own, a successful food company from which all earnings are donated to charity.
