About Mark Seymour
Originally from Benalla, Mark Seymour moved to Melbourne from country Victoria in 1972. Shortly after, in 1982, he formed the band Hunters and Collectors, for which he is probably still best known - playing guitar and singing vocals. The band produced some of the most seminal Australian classic rock tunes, including Holy Grail, Throw Your Arms Around Me, Do You See What I See and When The River Runs Dry, amongst others.
Even before the Hunters & Collectors officially parted ways in 1998, Seymour had begun to pursue a solo career. In 1997 he released his debut solo album King Without a Clue, which earned him a nomination in the Australian Recording Industry Awards (ARIA) Awards for Best Male Artist and Best Debut Single with Last Ditch Cabaret.
In 2001, Seymour released a live DVD/CD entitled One Eyed Man, followed by Embedded in 2004 and Daytime & the Dark in 2005. He continues to tour, but focuses mainly on small acoustic performances these days.
As an avid Australian Rules Football fan, it is fitting that Seymour's best known track, Holy Grail, be adopted as the unofficial anthem for the Grand Final telecast.
On July 14, 2005, the Hunters and Collectors were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame alongside Split Enz, Renee Geyer, Normie Rowe, Smoky Dawson and The Easybeats.
