About Hugh Jackman
If life imitated art, Hugh Jackman would definitely be the 21st century version of "The Boy from Oz", conquering both stage and screen locally, on Broadway and in Hollywood.
Jackman trained at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), before bursting onto the international musical theatre scene with his performance in Oklahoma with the Royal National Theatre in the West End of London. Since those early days, he has continued to perform in theatre, and starred as Peter Allen in the Original Broadway Cast of The Boy from Oz, premiering at the Imperial Theatre. The show was the first Australian Musical to reach Broadway, which made it especially fitting that an Australian should star in it.
In 2004 his work in Musical Theatre was recognised with the industry's highest award, the Tony for Best Actor (Musical) for his performance in The Boy from Oz.
Jackman has also worked extensively in film - in Australian movies (Paperback Hero) and in Hollywood. His most famous mass-market films are the X-Men trilogy (2000, 2003, 2006), but he has also starred in many others such as Swordfish, Van Helsing and Kate & Leopold for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe. His latest movie release, The Prestige is currently in cinemas.
In 2005 he won an Emmy for his hosting of the Tony Awards in that same year.
In 2006 he returned to Australia to star in The Boy from Oz Arena Spectacular in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth.
