About Bette Midler
Multi-talented entertainer Bette Midler was born in Honolulu in 1946, and was a drama school drop out before making her film debut in Hawaii; playing a seasick boat passenger. She went on to train as a dancer in New York and landed the role of Tzeital in the long running Broadway musical Fiddler on the Roof.
Signing with Atlantic records in the 70's, Midlers platinum debut album was produced by Barry Manilow and went on to win a Grammy. Five successful albums followed, with Midler establishing her name in the music industry before the 1979 film The Rose, which confirmed her acting talent and secured an Oscar nomination and two Golden Globe awards. The films soundtrack album also earned her platinum status on top of another Grammy.
During a four year break from filmmaking, Bette recorded two more albums, Divine Madness and No Frills. In 1984, a deal with Disney saw her producing a flood of comedy films, including Down and Out in Beverley Hills, Ruthless People, Outrageous Fortune and Big Business. She created All Girl Productions which produced Beaches which was a huge success paving the way for future films like Stella, For the Boys, Hocus Pocus and Gypsy.
In 1990 the album release of Some Peoples Lives contained the Grammy Award winning hit From a Distance. More recently, Midler has been a part of popular movies like Get Shorty, The First Wives Club and the Stepford Wives.
