About Bud Tingwell
One of Australia's most loved actors; Bud Tingwell was born in Sydney in 1923. Shying from 'celebrity', Bud Tingwell had an everchanging upbrining in beachside Sydney, where his father was retrenched and then won the lottery and his airforce service which placed him flying Spitfires in the face of death.
Beginning his career in radio as the youngest announcer in Australia, Tingwell didn't start making movies until after World War Two. By the age of 30, he had moved to Hollywood but his career took off in London, where he lived for 16 years starring in the popular Emergency Ward 10 series, which was watched by a massive half of the UK population.
In 1972, Bud returned to Australia working as an actor and sometimes producer and director. He appeared in the famous television series Homicide, The Sullivans and The Flying Doctors, also starring in the miniseries Power Without Glory and All the Rivers Run and films including the classic Breaker Morant.
More recently, Tingwell immersed himself with roles in The Castle and Innocence, leading to a resurgence in his career.
