About Paul Hogan
Paul Hogan was born in 1939 in Lightning Ridge, New South Wales. Before his career in TV & film began, Hogan's working life began working as a rigger on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Hogan was discovered after a comical interview in the early 1970s on A Current Affair. He created a successful sketch comedy show called The Paul Hogan Show, which he produced, co-wrote and starred in. The show ran from 1973 to 1984, in which period 60 episodes were aired. After a brief stint playing a Aussie out of his depth in London for a highly successful series of Foster's commercials, Hogan began work on Crocodile Dundee.
Released in 1986, Crocodile Dundee was the first of three films centred around the character of the same name, an Australian bushman who has a "fish out of water" experience in New York City. It soon went on to become the most successful Australian film ever overseas. Hogan, who wrote the screenplay and also starred in the film, was awarded a Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Comedy, nominated for a Golden Globe award for Best Comedy, nominated for an Academy Award (Oscar) for best screenplay, and British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards for both Best Screenplay and Best Actor.
Hogan was awarded the honour of being the Australian of the Year in 1985, and was also inducted into the Order of Australia. He was married to Crocodile Dundee co-star Linda Kozlowski in 1990, and has 6 children - 5 of which are from a previous marriage.
