About Rex Hunt
Born in 1949, Rex Hunt first rose to fame when he debuted with Richmond in round 5 of the 1968 AFL season. His partnership with Richmond lasted until 1974, where he played 113 games, and kicked 121 goals. The then moved to Geelong, where he played 32 games for 44 goals before moving to St Kilda, where he finished his career with another 57 games and 111 goals. With Richmond he twice won the premiership medal, the first time in 1969 and the second in 1973.
After retiring from VFL football at the end of the 1978 season, Hunt continued to play in the lower-level VFA in 1980 - 81 for Sandringham. He also remained involved with the game by becoming a commentator for 3AW, helping them surge up the ratings. It was here that he coined famous phrases such as "Yibbida yibbida, that is all" and I'm Rex Hunt and you're not". The latter quote would later become the name of a panel show he was involved with on the Seven Network.
In 1981 and 1982, Hunt turned his attention to his other great love - fishing. His first show Angling Action was made and shown on the Ten Network in that period. He also began a fishing radio show in 1982 for 3DB. Throughout the 1980s, Hunt continued to write for a number of newspapers and magazines, and in 1991 began a new TV show with the Seven Network called Rex Hunt's Fishing World which was later renamed to Rex Hunt's Fishing Australia and still later Rex Hunt's Fishing Adventures. It ran until 2002.
Hunt currently lives in Beaumaris, Victoria, and owns D'lish Fish - a Fish and Chip shop in Port Melbourne opposite Station Pier.
