About Michael Leunig

Michael Leunig is mainly known for his work in the daily Fairfax press - The Age and Sydney Morning Herald newspapers. Born in 1945 in Melbourne, Victoria, he is a cartoonist / artist whose political commentary spans over 30 years.

In 1999, Leunig was given the honour of being named as one of Australia's Living Treasures by the National Trust of Australia. His work has also been featured in many ways - including a feature tram in Melbourne. His work was also used as one theme in the Opening Ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, which centered around a "boy and his duck" which explored the dreams and visions of a boy.
