About Robert Allenby
Robert Allenby was born 12 July 1971 in Melbourne and is one of the leading Australian professional golfers of his generation.
Robert managed to win at least one tournament in each year until 1996 when he confirmed his emergence as one of the leading players in the World, with three victories on the European Tour to finish 3rd on the Order of Merit. However, serious injuries resulting from a car crash in Spain slowed his progress until mid-1997.
By 1998 Robert had recovered, establishing himself as one of Australia's leading golfers, finishing the year tied fourth in the 1998 Holden Australian Open. At year end, he attended the grueling six round Qualifying Tournament, securing his US PGA Tour card for 1999.
He also played on the European Tour which was his principal tour until 1998. He won four tournaments on it, including three in 1996, when he finished third on the Order of Merit. He has featured in the top 20 of the Official World Golf Rankings.
Allenby now plays primarily in the U.S. on the PGA Tour. He earned exempt status for 1999 by finishing 17th at the 1998 Qualifying School. In 2000, he won the Shell Houston Open and the Advil Western Open. He claimed another pair of wins the following season. In both of those years he came 16th on the money list.
Robert capped off his best year to date with a further victory in the US, taking out the Pennsylvania Classic, then successfully defending a title for the first time, winning the 2001 Australian PGA Championship.
Allenby played for the International Team in the Presidents Cup in 1994, 1996, 2000, 2003. He continues to play some events on his home tour and as of June 2005 has celebrated 9 wins.
