About Ricky Ponting
The current Australian cricket team captain, Ricky Ponting made his test debut in 1995 against Sri Lanka. In 1996, he became the youngest batsman to score a World Cup century.
Ponting's cricketing record is filled with monumental achievements. In 2003, he became the 2nd only batsman to score three double centuries in a calendar year. The other was Sir Donald Bradman. Then, in 2005-06 season, he scored a century in both innings of 3 Test Matches. He is the second man (the other being Sunil Gavaskar) to achieve such a feat, and the first person to do it in their 100th Test. He is also the only cricketer to score over 1500 Test Match runs in a calendar year twice.
As of May, 2006, Ponting is the world's leading batsman in Test cricket according to the ICC rankings, and second in the rankings for One-Day internationals.
In 2004 and 2006, Ponting won the Allan Border Medal for the most outstanding Australian cricketer. He is the only person to win the award, which is voted on by peers, the media and umpires, twice.
