About Andrew Gaze
Without doubt, Andrew Gaze is Australia's best ever basketball player. Since bursting onto the Australian basketball scene over 20 years ago as the NBL's "Rookie of the Year" in 1984, he has played in both the American NBA and the local NBL, where he has the distinction of being the league's the all-time leading points scorer.
His professional highlights include playing for the Washington Bullets and the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA and also representing Australia with the Boomers in a total of five Olympic Games - leading them to a best ever performance of fourth, at the 1996 Summer Olympics as team captain from 1994 - 2000. In his remarkable career he has been awarded the NBL Most Valuable Player award a stunning 7 times.
In May, 2005, he announced his retirement from the game after 612 games in the NBL. He is now a widely sought media personality, and his passion for basketball continues to dominate his professional work in the form of commentating NBL games for SEN 1116 and coaching the Melbourne Tigers' junior basketball club.
