About Geoffrey Rush
Born on July 6th 1951, Geoffrey Rush grew up in Towoomba, Queensland and is one of Australia's most renowned actors, having won an Academy Award, Golden Globe and an Emmy Award.
After high school, Rush went on to complete an Arts Degree at the University of Queensland before being recruited by the Queensland Theatre Company in 1971. After several years working in theatre, Rush took off for Paris where he spent a number of years studying mime and pantomime at the famous Jaques De Le Coq School of Mime.
As a passionate campaigner for Australian made film and theatre, Rush made his debut silver screen appearance in the Australian film 'Hoodwinked' in 1981, before going on to star in the 1982 Gillian Armstrong film 'Starstruck'. He stepped into the global limelight in his mid-forties when he picked up an Oscar for his stunning performance in the hit movie 'Shine'.
With more than 35 film credits, dozens of award nominations and six coveted statues to his name, Geoffrey Rush is without doubt one of the world's most respected and admired actor/directors. This down to earth Aussie superstar still lives in Camberwell, Victoria with his young family.
